Eternal Source of Light Divine

Separated from the continent by the channel, England was always somewhat removed from the innovations taking place in broader Europe. Composers traveling back and forth were an important means of keeping up to date with the latest musical developments. Handel was especially important in this regard as he brought the final flowering of the Baroque style to London's stages. This program brings together music composed for the royals and for the public theaters by English and émigré composers.
