With the death of  Johann Kuhnau, the Leipzig town council must find a new cantor in the Thomasschule. Take your seat on the council and listen to the contenders for this prestigious position. The candidates are to be judged by the quality of their cantatas, though, the ability to teach Latin is as important as the quality of the music. [more info]

The trumpet served important court and military functions for centuries, but it wasn't until 1634 that the instrument entered the concert hall when Fantini and Frescobaldi the greatest trumpeter and organist of their day, presented the first known concert combining these instruments. The immigration of some of the most important composers in all of Europe created a final flowering of the Baroque style in England.
